Workbook Blocks
Let learners write answers that persist across lessons and assemble into one downloadable workbook.
The Workbook block turns your course into a working document. Learners write their own content into fields you define — defining their target audience in one lesson, their brand identity in another — and every answer is saved against their enrolment. By the end of the course they have a completed workbook they can review, print, or download as a PDF.
Unlike other blocks, workbook answers persist per course, not per lesson: a field stays editable across lessons and across sessions, so learners can come back and refine earlier answers at any time.
Adding a workbook
- In the lesson editor, click Add Block → Workbook
- Give the block an optional Section title and Intro (rich text) to frame what the learner should write
- Add one or more fields — each field is one prompt the learner answers
You can place Workbook blocks in as many lessons as you like; they all feed the same per-learner workbook.
Fields
Each field has:
- Label — the prompt the learner sees (e.g. "Who is your target audience?")
- Help text — an optional hint shown under the input
- Placeholder — optional greyed-out text inside an empty field
- Required — mark the field as required (see Completion below)
Learners answer in a rich-text editor that starts as a single line and grows as they type, so short answers stay compact and longer ones expand naturally.
Tip: Field labels are the durable identity of an answer. Editing a label or moving a field keeps the learner's existing answer attached — you won't lose data by reorganising a workbook.
Layout
Fields sit in rows, and a row can hold up to two fields side by side:
- Use the + below a row to add a new row
- Use the + on the side of a field to add a second field next to it
- Drag a field by its grip handle to place it next to another (forming a two-column row) or back out to its own row
- Drag the row handle to reorder rows
On small screens, side-by-side fields stack to full width automatically.
Completion (optional)
By default a workbook never blocks progress — learners can move on without filling it in. If you want it to count, turn on Count toward lesson completion on the block. When on, the learner must fill every required field before that lesson is marked complete (which in turn feeds course completion).
What the learner sees
- Each field autosaves as they type; a "Saved" indicator confirms it
- Answers reappear whenever they return to the lesson, in any later session
- On the final lesson, a Finish course button takes them to the completion screen
- On the completion screen, a Your workbook is ready card opens their assembled workbook — every field across every lesson, in order — which they can review or Download / Print as a PDF
Note: Saving requires the learner to be signed in. Guests previewing a course can type into a workbook but their answers aren't stored.
Reviewing a learner's workbook
Trainers can read any learner's workbook:
- Open the course's Learners list
- Open a learner
- Scroll to the Workbook panel — their answers, grouped by lesson, with unanswered fields marked Not answered
